Good Stewardship Helps us to Know Jesus, Love Jesus, and Serve Jesus!
Dear Parishioners:
The good news is: Our Parish continues to grow in number
of families and activities! There are more spiritual, social and
service activities going on now at ABVM than ever before.
This is a wonderful sign of life—God’s Spirit alive and well in
West Grove.
The requested Offertory Collection increase provides for an
annual budget item of $50,000 to complete these types of capital repair items.
In addition to these large maintenance items we have general
cost increases for basic needs such as utilities, insurance, salaries, benefits and routine maintenance.
The challenging news is: Our facilities where these activities
occur require maintenance and, as our infrastructure ages, our
expenses are increasing. Based on this, the Finance Council
and I have determined the need to increase the amount required
through the Offertory Collection by 12%. Over the past year
we have asked, and you have generously given, $16,200 per
week. This year we need $18,200 per week.
We continue to rely on your generous donations. We ask each
family consider increasing their Offertory Collection by at least
12% per week. For example if you give $50 per week, increase
to $56 per week; if you give $30 per week, increase to $34 per
week; if you give $15 per week, increase to $17 per week. We
recognize that this may be a burden to some; but we trust that
the Holy Spirit will guide all of you to donate as best you can.
In the past 12 months we committed to undertake the following
unbudgeted projects:
Repair leaks to the cupola and side doors of the Main
Church – completed in 2014
Replace the steps between the Parish and School parking
lots – completed in 2014
Replace the gutters to the Parish Center – completed in
2015
Replace the concrete sidewalks in the area of the Main
Church - to be completed in late spring 2015
These projects cost about $40,000. Soon we will need funds to
resurface or replace the Parish Center roof and to resurface the
Church and School parking lots. As you can see, we need to
develop a line budget item for on-going major maintenance.
This may be a convenient time to switch to Electronic Funds
Transfer (EFT) for those not using this system for the Offertory
Collection. EFT is a convenient way to complete your Offertory Collection even if you are away for the weekend or holiday.

The Parish Appeal funds Major Projects and Future Growth!
The Parish Life Center and Parish Office are fully operational. All bills for
construction and furnishings are paid. The Case Statement for the Parish
Appeal designated $50,000 to ABVM School. However, these funds were
deferred because of unanticipated expenses in completing the Parish Life
Center. Beginning in February, $10,000 of that commitment was paid. The
remaining money will be paid by October 2015. Thus, it is important that
you continue your generous support of the Parish Appeal. To date, we have
raised more than $378,400 from donations of more than 700 parishioners
such as you. To sustain our cash flow we need an additional $19,100 to
fulfill our obligations for the total scope of the Appeal.

Reflection
April 19, 2015
"He stood in their midst and said to them, 'Peace be with you.'
But they were startled and terrified." What was so terrifying
about being wished peace? How ironic that the disciples were
so scared right at the moment that Jesus was offering them
peace. The fact is that they didn't understand what was going
on. They were already aware at this point that Jesus had
risen from the dead, but now he suddenly appeared before
them, in a manner that was not only totally unexpected, but
also apparently physically impossible.
Jesus reassured them with concrete actions. He told them to
look at him and to touch him. He wanted his disciples to be
comforted by his real physical presence among them, not just
the abstract idea of his presence. Once they did this, they
were "incredulous for joy and were amazed."
This may be the case for us at times too. We may not
understand the mysterious ways in which Jesus is present in
our lives. His Spirit may be present, wishing to bring us peace
right in the midst of stress, sickness, anguish, or pain, but we
may not recognize him at first. But just because he may not
"show up" in the way we expect doesn't mean he isn't with us.
The risen Christ also wants to give us the gift of peace.

Adorers of the Blessed Sacrament

program called “Adorers of the Blessed

our Lord Jesus during any of the hours of
Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament...even
if only for a few minutes. Membership sign-ups will begin

program is in addition to the core group of adorers who are

First Communion Rehearsals are scheduled for Sunday,
April 26, 2015. Please report to the Parish Life Center Social
Hall for rehearsals.
Registration for 2015-2016 School Year. Registration packets for the 2015-2016 CYFF school year have
gone home. Extra forms are available on the parish website. Registration is open from now until June 15th. After
June 15th, a late fee goes into effect. Please be sure to
check a second choice of day and time. Class size is limited to 12-14 children and will be filled on a first come-first
serve basis where we have Catechists. Once class is
filled, children will be placed on a waiting list.
Sacramental Preparation Reminders: It is the policy of the parish that students demonstrate readiness to
participate in Sacramental preparations by showing consistent attendance for two years in CYFF or other religious
studies prior to reception of each Sacrament. First Communion is administered typically at the end of 2nd grade
requiring attendance in religious studies (CYFF) for 1st and
2nd grade. Confirmation is administered in the Fall of 7th
grade. Preparation for the Sacrament starts in the Winter
(February) of 6th grade requiring consistent attendance in
CYFF or religious studies for grades 4 and 5.
In order to receive all sacraments, it is recommended that
families have consistent attendance in a religious education
program from grades 1-6.
Catechists Needed:
As Catholics, part of our vocational call is to pass our faith
onto the children. While the prime responsibility falls to the
parents, each parish offers families assistance through a
formal religious education program. Our Catholic Youth
Faith Formation program (CYFF) strives to assist families
with this. It takes a large team of volunteers, aides and
catechists to provide a program strong enough to answer
the needs of our parish. Please prayerfully consider whether God may be calling you to help with this ministry.
Catechists are needed for the following classes for the
2015-2016 school year. Catechists will receive training and
support, teacher manuals and have opportunities for personal faith education.

Calling all youth entering high school in September! We are
headed out again this summer for our annual trip to Franciscan University’s youth conference on July 17-19, 2015 at
their main campus in Steubenville, Ohio. Last summer, our
youth group attended for the first time where we joined over 3,000
teens from the surrounding northeastern states. This conference is an
amazing weekend and emphasizes the teachings of the Catholic Church,
the importance of the Sacraments, and Christian prayer. Mass is celebrated daily and the Sacrament of Reconciliation is offered throughout
the weekend. There are talks by nationally known guest speakers;
small group discussions; powerful, upbeat music; various skits; and
time for recreation. We only have a few more spots available, so if

Tips. Andrea is an experienced career consultant for Careerminds

evaluating curriculum and assessing teacher effectiveness. Andrea has held various

Grief to Grace—Healing the Wounds of Abuse
This spiritual program is for anyone who has suffered degradation or violation
through physical, emotional, sexual, or spiritual abuse. It is appropriate for anyone
who has endured sexual abuse, rape, incest, or other forms of traumatic violation in
childhood or adolescence. It is also appropriate for anyone who has been abused
by clergy.
The program will be held June 28 through July 3 of 2015 in Aston, PA. Grief to
Grace invites participants to journey through this program in the name of love - love
for themselves, love for family and friends, love for those who have suffered unspeakable abuse and mistreatment, and love for the Church - the suffering body of
Christ, who cries out for comfort and consolation in the midst of profound betrayal
and abandonment. The program offers a very unique process for helping victims of
abuse to grieve the past and discover spiritual healing and transformation. Dr. Theresa Burke who is the founder of Rachel’s Vineyard - retreats for healing after abortion, composed the program and will serve as the facilitator for this retreat. Visit

in the Archdiocese to the Marriage March in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, April 25, 2015.
